The Plan-1059 Codarl-m is a third generation Arm Slave, operated by Amalgam.
It is a refined, mass production version of the Plan-1056 Codarl prototype model used by Gauron in North Korea and Helmajistan, and shares many visual similarities.
Development
The base platform of the Codarl-m is derived from the Soviet made Zy-98 Shadow 3rd generation Arm Slave, with the base structural frame, muscle packages, sensors and controls retained.
The Codarl-m furthers this package with a new armour arrangement, an improved palladium reactor, infusion of a TAROS within the cockpit module and the installation of a Lambda Driver. The Lambda driver is cooled via a filament wire system that makes up the units "hair".
While the prototype Plan 1056 Codarl proved itself as a formidable combat system, its greatest weakness was its Lambda Driver overheating when used for extended periods. The subsequent loss of the Lambda driver function removed the trump card of the AS, relegating it to the functionality of a standard AS like the M9 Gernsback and allowing it to be vulnerable to conventional attacks.
The Codarl-m improved on this issue and allowed for the extended operation of the Lambda Driver so long as the pilot was physically and mentally capable of it. This was demonstrated in the Battle of Hong Kong, when Xia Yu Fan was able to repel an organised system of repeated, sustained attacks from multiple Mithril M9's for some time, with her own fatigue becoming a limiting factor.
Operational History
The Codarl-M made its combat debut in the Battle of Hong Kong, after Xia Yu Fan and Xia Yu Lan stole one from Amalgam for their own personal agena. The unit was used to systematically attack sentry posts for North and South Chinese forces - notably those guarded by 2nd Generation arm slaves - in the hope of restarting the Chinese civil war.
Later in the battle an Amalgam expeditionary force arrived, which in turn had four Codarl-m AS supporting the Plan 1058 Codarl-i of its leader, Gates. This demonstrated the superior development and proliferation of Lambda Driver equipped arm-slaves within Amalgam, compared to the sole equipped unit of Mithril; the ARX-7 Arbalest.
The stolen Codarl-m was destroyed by Gates, who attacked a tired and emotional Xia Yu Fan, easily defeating her. The remaining expeditionary Codarl-m AS were destroyed when the ARX-7 and Sousuke Sagara intervened.
From there on, the Codarl-m became the standard Amalgam operating AS, and was frequently deployed in squads of three to counter the risk of Mithril's ARX-7, which was perceived as being a superior system.
It was later used to counter the remaining Mithril SRT M9's, which although were at a disadvantage for not having a Lambda Driver, were able to identify and attack weak points in Lambda Driver focus via the use of a Fairy's Eye system.
